As you probably know, when you invest in our Pooled Mortgage Fund, your funds are used to lend out to Australian business borrowers. What you may not know is that these borrowers often face difficulties in accessing finance from traditional banks and institutions. Without funds like PMAC Trust (our Pooled Mortgage Fund) many small businesses wouldn’t have the opportunity to grow, create jobs, and stimulate local economies.
When we were looking for a way to give back to the community we started looking for a charity partner that matched with the values of our company. The organisation that really resonated with us was Kiva, a global crowdfunding micro-finance platform that provides financial access to help underserved communities thrive.
More than a billion people globally remain entirely unbanked. They lack access to basic credit lines, everyday transaction accounts, and the formal financial history required to secure traditional commercial loans.

This exclusion traps brilliant, industrious grass-roots entrepreneurs in cycles of economic stagnation. Kiva prioritises supporting communities that need it most like refugees, women, people in climate threatened areas or marginalised populations.
When deciding on which communities we would support through our Kiva loans we looked to our diverse, multicultural workforce which includes a core team of brilliant professionals hailing from the Philippines. Because our internal culture is deeply enriched by their talent, dedication, and insight, we felt a profound responsibility to extend our corporate social impact directly back to the hardworking Filipino community.
How Does APG’s Active Giving Program Work?
To turn this sentiment into measurable action, APG launched the Active Giving Program in 2020. We decided that for every loan we settled we would lend $100 of the company’s profit to a worthy recipient through the Kiva platform.
Each month we reward one of our staff members an ‘Active Award’ for outstanding work or demonstrating APG’s core values. Part of their reward is the opportunity to select the individuals or projects in The Philippines that we will lend to. If we have settled five loans throughout the month then they have $500 to lend and can select for it to go to one individual or split across multiple loans. They are also able to re-lend any repaid amounts.
To date we’ve lent $17,750 across 99 individual life-changing loans.. As detailed in our official Kiva lending insights, the Filipino entrepreneurs we back have maintained a remarkable 0.00% default rate. Because of this perfect repayment track record, $13,232.04 has already been successfully repaid and re-lent to the next wave of business owners. This capital efficiency has officially propelled APG into the elite 99th percentile of all lenders worldwide on the Kiva platform.
While the funds used for our Kiva loans come from our company profits and not from investor profits, we hope that you’ll be pleased that your involvement with APG is helping to provide the vital liquidity that transforms lives, builds financial stability, and empowers communities.
We are incredibly proud to prove that smart, structured investing and profound global social impact can seamlessly walk hand-in-hand.
